Genesis 26: 17-22
17 So Isaac moved away to the Gerar Valley, where he set up their tents and settled down.
18 He reopened the wells his father had dug, which the Philistines had filled in after Abraham’s death. Isaac also restored the names Abraham had given them.
19 Isaac’s servants also dug in the Gerar Valley and discovered a well of fresh water.
20 But then the shepherds from Gerar came and claimed the spring. “This is our water,” they said, and they argued over it with Isaac’s herdsmen. So Isaac named the well Esek (which means “argument”).
21 Isaac’s men then dug another well, but again there was a dispute over it. So Isaac named it Sitnah (which means “hostility”).
22 Abandoning that one, Isaac moved on and dug another well. This time there was no dispute over it, so Isaac named the place Rehoboth (which means “open space”), for he said, “At last the Lord has created enough space for us to prosper in this land.”
▣ Isaac lived in the Valley of Gerar and prospered very much.
So he named the place Rehoboth.
God made Isaac prosper.
10 The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. (John 10:10)
9 You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich.
(2 Corinthians 8:9).
It is the will of the Lord that his children may have life and live abundantly.
When you pray, the will of the Lord is done.
Prayer makes the Christian life rich and prosperous.
1. Isaac dug a well.
Isaac dug a well and got water.
Water is the source of all life.
He who gets the source gets everything.
The same goes for faith.
There are several problems, but we need to find the root cause first.
19 Isaac’s servants also dug in the Gerar Valley and discovered a well of fresh water. (Gen 26:19).
12 And besides, do you think you’re greater than our ancestor Jacob, who gave us this well? How can you offer better water than he and his sons and his animals enjoyed?” (John 4:12).
The source of the key to solving all Christian problems is to return to God.
2. Isaac dug again the well that his father Abraham had dug.
Instead of digging new ground, Isaac dug again the well that his father had dug.
Because there is still a spring flowing there.
It was once filled by the Philistines, but there is water flowing there.
He dug again the wells that his father had dug in the days of Abraham, because the Philistines filled them up after Abraham died.
Today, the church needs to dig up the fountain of prayer again.
We have to go back to the old way, not the new way.
We need to find the original fountain that was buried and forgotten in the world and dig it up again.
3. Isaac's servants dug up to the fountain's source.
Isaac's servants dug until water came out.
Churches and Christians today are full of spiritual defeatism.
To get out of it, we have to dig down to the fountain's source, like Isaac's prosperous servants.
19 Isaac’s servants also dug in the Gerar Valley and discovered a well of fresh water. (Gen 26:19).
We need to be more focused and dedicated to our prayers.
The fountain source cannot be exchanged for anything the world can give.
Everything in the world can only be achieved with time and passion that is worthy of its value.
14 They all met together and were constantly united in prayer, along with Mary the mother of Jesus, several other women, and the brothers of Jesus. (Acts 1:14)
42 All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper[a]), and to prayer. (Acts 2:42)
4 Then we apostles can spend our time in prayer and teaching the word.”
(Acts 6:4).
7 The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers. (1 Peter 4:7)
Amen.
