31. Intercessory prayers
Exodus 17: 8-13
8 While the people of Israel were still at Rephidim, the warriors of Amalek attacked them.
9 Moses commanded Joshua, “Choose some men to go out and fight the army of Amalek for us. Tomorrow, I will stand at the top of the hill, holding the staff of God in my hand.”
10 So Joshua did what Moses had commanded and fought the army of Amalek. Meanwhile, Moses, Aaron, and Hur climbed to the top of a nearby hill.
11 As long as Moses held up the staff in his hand, the Israelites had the advantage. But whenever he dropped his hand, the Amalekites gained the advantage.
12 Moses’ arms soon became so tired he could no longer hold them up. So Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on. Then they stood on each side of Moses, holding up his hands. So his hands held steady until sunset.
13 As a result, Joshua overwhelmed the army of Amalek in battle.
▣ When Moses raises his hands and prays for Israel, God will win the war.
If you lower your hand, Amalek wins.
Joshua fights the battle, but power comes from Moses' prayer.
Intercessory prayer is power.
Prayer should not stop at supplication for oneself, but move forward toward intercessory prayer, praying for others. Shifting the center of gravity of prayer from self to others is a great spiritual paradigm shift.
Intercessory prayers are usually prayers offered on behalf of others.
It is praying as a mediator between God and other people.
1. Intercessory prayer is a prayer that must be answered.
There is only one reason why prayers are not answered as recorded in the Bible.
3 And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure. (James 4:3).
Intercession is prayer for others. It is a prayer to overcome one's own greed.
Intercession is completely unselfish prayer. Therefore, intercession must be answered.
2. Intercessory prayer is the channel of blessing.
Through intercession, we pray that the soul of another will be saved, that heavenly blessings will come upon that person, and that God's power and help may come upon him.
God gives blessings through the channel of prayer.
All blessings that are prayed during prayer are declarations of blessings offered to God and are channels of blessings from God's grace.
Intercession depends not on the condition of the person receiving the prayer, but on the person making the intercession prayers.
Intercessory prayer does not depend on the condition of the person receiving the prayer, but on the person making the intercession.
3. Intercession is a spiritual battle.
8 But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil. (1 John 3:8).
If you pray for someone who is under sin, you must first know the spiritual fact that that person belongs to the devil.
The intercessor is a spiritual soldier who protects and saves souls belonging to the devil.
Intercession is a spiritual battle.
Bonding the evil spirits through prayer and establishing a bridgehead for spiritual victory is what determines the success or failure of the gospel ministry.
Behind the visible ministry is an invisible spiritual battle.
The victory of the gospel ministry cannot be expected without the continuous and systematic prayer ministry that supports it.
At the personal and ecclesial level, the support of intercessory prayer is the most important spiritual force.
Charles Finney, who brought about great revival in the 19th century, had a strong prayer partner.
This is Daniel Nash, a pastor near New York.
At the age of forty-eight, he decided to present himself as an intercessor for the gatherings of Charles Finney.
Three or four weeks before Finney's arrival, he went to the city where the meeting would be held, rented a room and prayed with some intercessors.
In one city, we had no choice but to find a dark and damp basement, but wherever we were it became the center of intercession.
Whenever there was a difficulty, Finney asked Nash to pray, and Nash became more immersed in prayer.
Charles Finney's ministry, which started the second great revival movement in the United States, was promoted through the intercession of Daniel Nash.
It was done.
Intercessory prayer is God's reliable channel that silently breaks down the gates of hell and moves the world. Amen
